SAVE THE PARLOUR

scbyl

As I’ve said a few posts ago me and SUPERBEAT practice in a artist run building called The Parlour. It’s an empty building that Bristol City Council own, it’s totally run down and unusable for commercial purposes so the council have given it to us as a part of Bristol’s Capacity Scheme.

The Capacity Scheme was put in place a few years ago by a very small department of the council to make use of the empty buildings that have been amounting due in part to our ever increasing global debt (you heard about that right?). This isn’t only happening in Bristol but they where one of the first to tackle this problem in a practical and intelligent manner. You definitely wouldn’t find any such scheme in big ol’ London.

Well now Bristol City Council have found someone who want’s to buy our dump of a building and turn it into… yeah you guessed it, student accommodation! Lame. LAME. Apparently they can’t get enough flats and shopping centres. They’re the quickest and most obvious ways to make revenue.

If “the sh*t goes down” we’re gonna be out of a studio/practice space and also pretty soon out of a venue [The Milk Bar is also a part of the Capacity Scheme], when we’ve only just got this thing up and running! Us and a whole other load of independent artists are gonna be a whole lot worse off because some people in our local councils are rummaging under the sofa cushions for a spare quid.

If you would like to give us a small hand then please give the new Bristol mayor George Ferguson [@GeorgeFergusonx] a tweet saying: “SAVE THE PARLOUR!”
